“European Distribution build – Real Asset Manager”

Our client, a leading US Real Assets Manager, was looking to strengthen European distribution with a key strategic hire in the Nordic region.

The Process

  • Valentine Thomas was instructed to hire a senior distribution individual to be responsible for the execution of all sales, marketing and IR-related activities in the Nordics. ​
  • This included the marketing of both public market and private market products to Wealth Management investors (including independent wealth advisors, private banks and multi-family offices).​
  • Initially the mandate was open for someone to either be based in London or one of the Nordic markets.​
  • Valentine Thomas conducted a full market mapping of Nordic sales people, both in London and in the region.​
  • We focused on individuals who were leading teams and their numbers 2s, it was crucial this person was still active with clients.​
  • We looked at both traditional long only firms, specialist alternative managers and third party marketers.​
  • The client was interested in people who had deep relationships in the region with tier 1 and tier 2 wealth managers and knew how the buying process worked.​
  • We looked at a targeted universe of 63 individuals, which became a shortlist of 3 across London, Sweden and Denmark. ​

The Outcome

  • We produced a shortlist across several markets and hired an individual out of a real assets manager based in Sweden. ​
  • The chosen candidate was an experienced sales individual in the real assets sector with a strong network in the wealth channel. ​
  • He was also instrumental in setting up an office in the region which was a complex operation.
